New Security Rules from TSA for Pat Downs and Screening at Airports

If you are told to go through the body scanner you do have a choice to
opt out for the pat-down instead, as TSA has announced that passengers who
opt out of the body scanners will be required to succumb to a pat-down. You
should be aware of what the "enhanced screening" pat-downs are. The new
procedure includes agents using open hands and fingers to touch and press
chest and groin areas of passengers, including the inside of a passenger's
legs to the thighs.
Meanwhile - The Council on American-Islamic Relations disagrees with full
groin pat downs for Muslims. They are advising Muslims that "before you are
patted down, you should remind the TSA officer that they are only supposed
to pat down the area in question, in this scenario, your head and neck. They
SHOULD NOT subject you to a full-body or partial-body pat-down."

passenger's clothing. The devices use a low dose of radiation to create a
computerized image of a person's body.
The Obama administration refuses to acknowledge who out there is trying to
kill Americans and why. In fact, Obama has banned from his official
vocabulary the terms "jihadist," "Islamist," and "Islamic terrorism."
Instead, Obama's National Security Strategy insists on calling the enemy "a
loose network of violent extremists." Profiling at airports should be part
of the National Policy. It can be done quietly and selectively.
Nov 15-2010 - TSA to investigate Oceanside man ejected from airport, may
prosecute
The Transportation Security Administration has opened an investigation
targeting John Tyner, 31, the Oceanside man who was ejected from the San
Diego International Airport on Saturday morning after refusing to undertake
a full body scan and, subsequently, a pat-down body search. Tyner recorded
the half-hour long encounter on his cell phone and later posted it to his
personal blog, along with an extensive account of the incident. That blog
and a subsequent story on
signonsandiego.com posted Saturday night and gone viral, attracting
hundreds of thousands of readers, and thousands of comments.
Michael J. Aguilar, chief of the TSA office in San Diego, called a press
conference at the airport Monday afternoon to announce the probe. The
investigation could lead to prosecution and “civil penalties” of up to
$11,000, he said.
TSA agents told Tyner on Saturday that he could be fined up to $10,000.
“That’s the old fine,” said Aguilar. “It has been increased.”
In virtually every case of attempted bombing or hijacking of airliners by a
passenger since 9/11, it has been airline passengers with flight attendants
who foiled the terrorists, not TSA. Without public support and
understanding, terrorists can have a victory merely by generating fear and
opposition by the public to TSA procedures, especially if --as some security
experts maintain-- the current back scatter scanners are ineffective,
unnecessary and their adoption owes more to the political connections of a
former Secretary of Homeland Security with financial interests in this
technology, than to actual need and merit.
There are some 300 full-body scanners now operational in 60 U.S. airports.
TSA is on track to deploy approximately 500 units by the end of 2010.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) issued a travel advisory
for airline passengers who may be subjected to new Transportation Security
Administration (TSA) "enhanced pat-downs" that many of those who undergo the
procedure describe as invasive and humiliating
In light of the growing concerns about the invasiveness of the new enhanced
pat-down procedure, CAIR offered the following recommendations to Muslim
travelers:
* If you opt out of the full-image body scanner, you have the right to
request that the manual search be conducted in private.
* It is your right to be screened by an officer of the same gender. The TSA
states in its Head-to-Toe Screening Policies: "It is TSA's policy that
passengers should be screened by an officer of the same gender in a
professional, respectful manner."
CAIR also offered special recommendations for Muslim women who wear hijab:
If you are selected for secondary screening after you go through the metal
detector and it does not go off, and "sss" is not written on your boarding
pass, ask the TSA officer if the reason you are being selected is because of
your head scarf.
In this situation, you may be asked to submit to a pat-down or to go through
a full body scanner. If you are selected for the scanner, you may ask to go
through a pat-down instead.
Before you are patted down, you should remind the TSA officer that they are
only supposed to pat down the area in question, in this scenario, your head
and neck. They SHOULD NOT subject you to a full-body or partial-body
pat-down.
You may ask to be taken to a private room for the pat-down procedure.
Instead of the pat-down, you can always request to pat down your own scarf,
including head and neck area, and have the officers perform a chemical swipe
of your hands.
If you encounter any issues, ask to speak to a supervisor immediately. They
are there to assist you.

test. Is an elderly Catholic nun being frisked by a Muslim security agent
the celebration of blind justice? Or is it simply an admission of absurdity?
