Authorities late issued an arrest warrant for a 42-year-old man they want to question about the Washington, D.C.-area sniper attacks. Montgomery County Police Chief Charles Moose said the man, John Allen Muhammad, should be considered “armed and dangerous” and that he was being sought on a federal weapons charge. Police are also hoping to talk with Lee Malvo, possibly a juvenile. The authorities stressed that these men are “people of interest,” and not necessarily connected to the deadly string of shootings.

Authorities in the Beltway Sniper investigation are looking for two people

The two individuals they seek are John Mohammad, also known as John Alan Williams, formerly connected to Fort Lewis, an Army base south of Tacoma, Wash., and Lee Malvo.

The two men are linked to a blue or burgundy Chevy Caprice, with New Jersey license plates, with the plate reading: NDA-21Z.

Other cars police are on the lookout for are a white Chevy Celebrity with Maryland tags or a Crown Victoria.

The FBI searched a back yard in Tacoma that they believe may be related to the probe.

Law enforcement sources said search warrants related to the serial sniper case are being served in various parts of the country.

The sources said these multiple warrants included some in the D.C. area and at least one search warrant is also being executed in Marion, Ala.

The FBI is searching a location near Marion, Ala., known as Camp Ground Zero USA a place known to train militia groups. FBI sources are not at liberty to comment on the investigation and cannot confirm or deny their agents are investigating Camp Ground Zero USA.

Agents searched the home in Tacoma with metal detectors and chain saws more than 2,000 miles away from the region where the shootings have taken place. The agents, acting on information from the sniper task force based in Maryland, were seeking evidence at the rental home related to ammunition, a senior law enforcement official in Washington said on condition of anonymity.

A federal law enforcement official said they are looking for a weapons cache or bullets. This was a consensual warrant, thus there were no doors broken down or forced entry.

Williams was based at Fort Lewis in 1994-95 and lived in a nearby Tacoma neighborhood where a backyard search for ballistic material is wrapping up, according to Peggy Bellows, an editor for the Tacoma News Tribune.

Seattle's KOMO radio reports that Williams is a veteran of the Gulf War and Malvo's stepfather.

Fox News also is reporting that warrants related to the D.C. case have been issued in Montgomery, Ala.

Two shell casings have been recovered by agents in the Tacoma backyard along with two stumps that have bullet holes, according to KOMO-TV in Seattle.

Bellingham mayor Mark Asmundson told Seattle's KING-TV that his police department began cooperating this morning with FBI agents interested in two men who were residents of the city, near the Canadian border, in the past year and a half.

One was a student at Bellingham High School and the other was an older man, not related by family, who could be in his 30s, according to Asmundson.

The two were most recently in Bellingham nine months ago, Asmundson said.

"Being near the border, we've had our share of unusual characters in Bellingham," Asmundson said.

In Tacoma, sources confirmed that the search was related to the D.C. sniper case, according to KIRO-TV.

Fort Lewis spokesman Lt. Col. Joseph Piek said the FBI had asked for help from the base, KOMO-TV reported.
