When it comes to the old switcheroo, Frank Lautenberg and New Jersey's Democrats have nothing on Alan Hevesi and New York Dems. An Albany judge allowed Hevesi to sub for Bill Mulrow on the Working Families Party line in the race for state comptroller. An appeal is likely, but if the decision sticks, Hevesi will be allowed to claim votes on that line as his.

Just one problem: On Sept. 10, the Working Families Party held a primary, and the winner wasn't Hevesi. It was Bill Mulrow.

Should that result simply be scrapped?
True, Mulrow lost to Hevesi in the Democratic primary and then pulled out of the race. He now supports Hevesi. Still, the Republican candidate, John Faso, is crying foul. And he's right to.
The danger is not only that Hevesi will get votes he doesn't deserve, but that a fringe party (with a crypto-socialist agenda, by the way) will get more political clout than it deserves.

It picked a loser on Sept. 10. Now it should have to live with that
