- March 2006- The Bush administration hired Hutchison Whampoa in
a no-bid $6 million contract for the Bahamas Port. The deal represents the first time a
foreign company will be involved in running sophisticated U.S. radiation-detection
equipment at an overseas port without American customs agents present. Under the original
contract, no U.S. officials would be stationed permanently in the Bahamas with
the radiation scanner to help detect nuclear materials inside cargo. Any positive reading
would set off alarms monitored simultaneously by Bahamian customs inspectors at Freeport
and by U.S. customs officials working at an anti-terrorism center in northern Virginia.
Separately, there are no U.S. customs agents checking cargo containers in Freeport under
the U.S. customs port-security program. Research on U.S. company with mobile inspection

Hutchison Whampoa's billionaire chairman, Li Ka-Shing, has substantial business ties to
Chinas government that have raised U.S. concerns over the years. Warriors believes
Bush will get enough flack to get Homeland Security more involved.

Do you know what is going on just 60 miles off the Florida Coast?
The Clinton/Gore Administration once
again showed its approval by complete silence. The Chinese are one of their big campaign
contributors. What are a few stolen classified military weapons winding up in the Peoples
Republic of China...or one of the largest port in the world being built right under our
nose. Who cares! They are already moving in on the Panama Canal thanks to the Peanut
Farmer U.S. President. Maybe they will give the U.S. Military a Clinton/Gore discount on
the toll fees in the future. This port would counter the effects of the U.S. Trade
Embargo. Large foreign
tankers defying the Embargo are not permitted in U.S. ports now. Click here

This port will be a big player in Caribbean trade. It appears
that Clinton's wish of allowing the sanctions and embargo against Cuba to disenegrate are
slowly taking hold with his Chinese campaign contributors moving off the U.S. Coast.. When
are the rights of the Cuban people going to be mentioned and brought up in any
negotiations? The effect of the Embargo on the Cuban healthcare system definitely
needs to be addressed. The United States should continue to help the Cuban people and
increase medical and food relief, even if Castro still denies democratic reforms. Many
times the support sent does not reach the Cuban people as intended. There should be a
strong demand and guarantees written into any medicial and food relief sent. Americans can
vote officials out of office. Someday maybe there will be democratic elections in Cuba and
they can do the same. |
- On December 14, 2000 Russian President Boris
Putin stepped out of his plane and onto Cuban soil. Fidel Castro was there to meet and
greet him. The Cuban Trade Embargo was high on their list of items to discuss and Russia
promised a new committment. Add that to the Chinese deep water port for cargo tankers
(read the article below) and you will see the direction Castro is headed to
circumvent the U.S. embargo. The disconnection of telephone links from the U.S. to Cuba is
another piece to strategy.
Cuba is not alone in violating the human rights of its people. "Foreign governments
should step up pressure on China to improve its human rights record. ``Governments have to
be firm on that,'' said the Dali Lama of Tibet. The Dalai Lama warned in late September
2000 that a ``cultural genocide'' was under way in Tibet under the guise of Chinese-led
development programs that were also destroying the environment in his Himalayan homeland.
Still, the exiled Buddhist spiritual leader said he favored the U.S. decision on Sept. 19
to grant China permanent normalized trade status - a move many Republicans and millions of
others said would take away one way to influence Beijing on human rights. ``It is
essential that China becomes part of the global community,'' the Dalai Lama said, speaking
to lawmakers at the French Senate.
A Tibetan human rights group recently reported that China had stepped up its campaign
against Buddhism in Tibet and the Dalai Lama, with police raiding homes to seize religious
objects and schoolchildren warned not to attend temples. The Dalai Lama said,
"China's drive to develop Tibetan cities was aimed at destroying its ancient culture
and pushing Tibetans out. The number of Chinese living in Tibet's largest cities now
outnumber the Tibetans.``In the west of Tibet, they speak of development but they want to
make a completely new city - with very few Tibetans. There is a form of cultural genocide
taking place in Tibet,'' he said.
