Taliban Terrorists Gain Momentum in Pakistan
As a candidate in 2008, Barack Obama criticized
George W. Bush for giving billions in aid to Pakistan even as that country
made "peace treaties with the Taliban." Now in the Oval Office, Obama has
learned how easy it is for Pakistan, a democratic but Muslim country, to
ignore US pleas and take billions of dollars of U.S. money, while it simply
keeps coddling Islamic militants.
April 23- 2009 -
Pakistan's president Asif Ali Zardari officially handed Swat and other
districts in the Malakand Division to the Taliban in early April, after two years
of clashes between terrorists and security forces.
The government had hoped that the peace deal would calm the region where
hundreds have been killed and
1.5million residents had been displaced. The deal reveals a strange
unwillingness by Pakistan's 500,000-strong Army to confront the violent
jihadists that pose an existential threat to this country's democracy, just
as Al Qaeda's headquarters in Pakistan still pose a threat to the West.
There are fears that the Islamic Taliban Terrorists who have already been handed control of
the Swat valley, could now take Islamabad and topple the Nuclear Powered
Pakistani government.
Militants are believed to be just 60 miles away and edging closer by the
day. The Taliban leadership now seem intent on pushing the boundaries of
their regime and may have concluded from the Swat deal that authorities will cave
in to violent demands for Islamic law elsewhere.
With the help of Tajik militants, the Taleban have virtually taken control
of Buner, barely 100 km north of Islamabad and known for poppy cultivation
for heroin.
There are concerns that the ceasefire could result in creating another
sanctuary in Pakistan where al Qaeda and Taliban militants could move
freely.
They have natural allies in the religious political parties in other parts
of the country along with social and religious networks that have supported their suicide
attacks and attacks against the security forces.
In a recent interview, Swat Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan said al-Qaida
leader Osama bin Laden and other militants aiming to oust the U.S. from
Afghanistan would be welcome and protected in Swat
It is also feared Taliban fighters elsewhere in the region will be
encouraged by the government's move.
The terrorists have warned barbers to stop shaving men's beards and stores
to stop selling music and movies. Islamic Taliban Terrorists had torched
around 200 girls' schools in Swat in a campaign against female education.
Western governments, and many Pakistanis, have been alarmed by the
government's offer that reinstated Islamic sharia law in Malak when the
Taliban agreed to peace
Proposals for joint operations against al Qaeda and Taliban
forces in the tribal regions was rejected. Pakistan recently brokered a deal
with the Taliban in the North-West Frontier Province that allows the
militants to impose brutal interpretation of Islamic law on the people.
Pakistan also asked the U.S. to turn over the unmanned drone missions over
the territory.
The majority of the terrorist acts of the last
three decades, including the 9/11 attacks, were perpetrated
by Islamic fundamentalists in the name of Islam. We, as Muslims, find it
abhorrent that Islam is used to murder millions of innocent people, Muslims
and non-Muslims alike.

Taliban and Al-Qaeda are battle
ready in the lawless tribal areas of Pakistan. Pakistani security forces have been accused
of supporting the militants. Pakistan expressed concern to the U.S. over
drone missile attacks against Islamist militants on its soil
and angered over U.S. commando raid into the Pakistan Lawless Tribal Area
